Eel River Trail

The State recently approved the City’s Clean California Grant application (Click Here To View) to construct a 1,600+/- foot Class I shared-use path (pedestrian, bicycle) with associated trailhead improvements on the banks of the Eel River creating a pedestrian bicycle loop through town including Edwards, Davis and Wildwood Streets. The trail would be [part of the larger Great Redwoods Trail and is part of the plan for a Eureka to Scotia network of bicycle trails.

Ancillary trail features include benches, waste receptacles, interpretive signage, and other features related to public access and education. Features would generally be installed adjacent to the primary trail alignment.

The project was awarded to MCI Construction out of Ferndale.  Phase I of the project is almost complete. The City is pursuing other funding sources to complete Phase II of the project, which includes the construction of a concrete accessible switch-back style ramp at the north end of the trail at Davis Street.
