Building Department
The Building Department strives to provide fair and efficient customer service as it relates to plan review, permitting, inspections and enforcement of building codes and procedures. The primary objective of the Building Department is to enforce the intent of legally established building codes and regulations without unnecessary impact on owners, builders, and designers and at the same time, protect the health, safety and welfare of the community.
The City of Rio Dell requires that you obtain a building permit if you erect, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, convert, or demolish a building or structure. This includes not only building construction or remodeling, but also plumbing, mechanical or electrical modifications. All proposed construction must be in compliance with the current zoning regulations and construction codes. Chapter 15.05, “Construction Codes,” Sections 15.05.020 and 15.05.050 of the Rio Dell Municipal Code (RDMC) was amended to incorporate the 2022 California Building Codes which became effective on January 1, 2023.
